In a recent article by the The Hour, an online newspaper, we are strongly encouraged that when it comes to Teaching Children About Money, we must not only tell them about the value of money, but we must also be role models when it comes to money management.
The strongest lessons kids learn about money is through watching us, their parents. So although we want to set our children on the right path, unless we ourselves are using good money management skills, our children will not listen to a word we have to say about the whole matter.
There is an old adage, People do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Well I would like to paraphrase that for our kids in regards to learning about money. “Kids don’t care how much you know, until they see how much you do.”
Our kids are sponges, and they pick up on so many things that we don’t realise, through watching us.
So make sure that you improve your own money management skills, then and only then will we be able to really make an impression on our kids and teach them about money.
